Planning your
Financial Future

There is a lot to think about as you plan your future lives apart.

You may feel comfortable and confident thinking and talking about financial matters, but if you feel daunted you are not alone.

Family Mediation can help you to:

  • Gather your financial information as quickly and efficiently as possible.
  • Explore a range of options, prior to making decisions, and test the viability of options.
  • Understand the steps that you need to take to make your final decisions legally binding.

Meet Jessica

Jessica is a former Family Law Barrister, who has re-trained as a Mediator.

When you decide to separate or divorce, some of the big challenges that you face often revolve around finances and property.

When a decision is made by the Court, people can be left feeling powerless. Many clients run up significant legal bills, which can compound their financial and emotional stress.

By contrast, Family Mediation offers a safe space for you to discuss and make your own agreements to secure your financial future. The aim is to help you both to move on to the next stage of your life.

What will we talk about at Joint Mediation Sessions?

Some of the things we may talk about at Joint Mediation Sessions are:

  • Each of your living arrangements, from now on.
  • How to divide your finances. Consideration of savings, pensions, debts, any maintenance payments and other connected issues will be important to get right as you begin to plan your life after separation.

Everybody’s situation is different. Family Mediation provides you with a safe space to explore financial options, and consider what they would mean for you and your family.

Disclosure for Divorce - Where do we start?

If you are married, you will both need to provide full and frank financial disclosure of all your assets before moving on to consider what your options might be.

Disclosure is required whether you choose Mediation or go through solicitors and/ or the Court. The crucial difference is that in Mediation you both go through this process together, which typically makes it quicker and more efficient.

If you choose Family Mediation then we will guide you through this process, step by step.

We are not married. Can we still mediate?

Family Mediation is a flexible process and you can take part if you are married or you have been living together.

There are different laws governing what happens if you are married or living together and if you have children. This affects legal entitlements and how assets are normally distributed.
